It has been such a frantic but wonderfully exciting Summer and Autumn that I’ve hardly had time to sit down and write anything since my last piece about the Whitehall Place Open Day back in October
I’m waiting to get some lovely new photographs from all the weddings we’ve been working on since July and will post some of them as soon as I get a chance. Watch this space!
This weekend coming is a busy one too – this time its Christmas though! Guests staying the night at The Royal Horseguards Hotel in Whitehall on Saturday will go to bed blissfully unaware that the Christmas elves are due in to magically transform the interior and exterior to a Christmas wonderland . . . photos to follow. We’ve been garlanding and swagging, wiring and pinning our little fingers off
With the National Wedding Show last weekend, the wedding fair season has well and truly started. I saw some amazing dresses, cakes, photographers and honeymoon destinations at the show and plan to highlight a few of my favourites here over the next few weeks
But for now let me just remind anyone still looking for a wedding venue, that One Whitehall Place has its next Open Day on Saturday 15 October 12-4pm. Come and see the venue dressed to the nines with flowers, cakes, toastmasters, harpists, violins, photographers and table dressing!
With views over the River Thames from the Reading & Writing Room, this is a wonderful venue for a summer wedding with access to the Terrace and gardens which are perfect for photographs. And in winter, the venue comes alive with candles, dark rich curtains and a roaring fire in the Hotel lobby!
We’ve been working at OWP and The Royal Horseguards for so long now it seems like home and some weeks I feel as if I’m there more than home too – but we love it and the people who work there are great, friendly and very helpful – the wedding team under Laura Ramella are very efficient and nothing is too much trouble
So I look forward to meeting some of you there – if you would like to make an appointment to discuss your wedding flowers, please email me
This Summer has been so busy with weddings and parties, that it is easy to see where the time has gone. August seemed to go by in a flash and we are nearly at the end of September
Blue Sky Flowers has passed a 10 year milestone and I am really proud of where we are today – we have hundreds of weddings under our belts, have helped to prettify the launch of countless products and contributed to not an insignificant amount of magazines and blogs – here is to the next decade of all things floral!
But closer to hand, we’ve had a storming Summer. July was a record with the team handling 7 weddings over the month but August was pretty busy with 5!
I’ll eventually get round to posting photos from all the weddings with links to the relevant wonderful suppliers that we worked with but in many cases I’m waiting for the incredibly busy photographers to find time to send the shots through
For now here are some early shots from Holly and Simon’s beautiful wedding at the fabulous One Whitehall Place – we used tall silver candelabra with ivory and champagne Roses, Hydrangea, Lisianthus and Stock for a very elegant effect teamed with low glass cake stands and mirror plates. Holly fell in love with some shocking pink Gloriosa lilies that matched perfectly the Roseberry Roses that the bridesmaids carried so we used them with ‘Lucky’ Bamboo at the drinks reception in the Reading and Writing Room
When I first met up with Amber, she had a very firm idea of what she wanted and I was very happy to make her dreams reality for her wedding to Jon back in April. The venue was one of our favourites, the lovely One Whitehall Place in the centre of Westminster
The Gladstone Library was to host the ceremony first of all so we set out the table candelabra, masses of silvered tea lights and ivory rose petals around the edges of the room to create a really magical effect
These were then moved onto mirrored plates on each table whilst the guests had drinks in the Reading and Writing Room next door
The lovely Anna Rosell www.annarosell.com has captured the essence of the wedding day with some wonderful photos – take a look, she may inspire you too!
Held in the most romantic month of the year, One Whitehall Place’s Wedding Open Day is 12-4pm this Sunday 27 February, following hot on the heels of last week’s National Wedding Show at Olympia
It is a perfect opportunity to see the venue set up and dressed for a wedding. Both the Gladstone Library and the Whitehall Suite will be dressed with tables and the Whitehall Suite will also be dressed for a ceremony so you can get a great view of what your day as a Bride at One Whitehall would be like
As the neighbouring Royal Horseguards Hotel’s in house florist and preferred floral supplier to the venue, I will be on hand during the afternoon to show you what is possible for your wedding, walk around the different rooms and discuss your ideas
If you would like to book a particular time to meet on the day, do let me know and I look forward to welcoming you to one of central London’s most spectacular venues
One of our main venues, the spectacular One Whitehall Place, is holding an Wedding Open Day next Sunday 28th February.

Situated just off the Embankment on Whitehall Place, next door to The Royal Horseguards Hotel, the venue has a Grade 1 Listed facade, a magnificent sweeping marble staircase, beautiful high-ceilinged rooms and great views over the Thames from the garden terrace – all of which provide a stunning backdrop to any wedding.

We will be dressing the main Gladstone Library ready for a wedding party and aiming to give you lots of ideas for your own wedding flowers.
So if you would like some advice or guidance, to check out the
venue or just come and have a chat, make contact with Carmel Mulkeen, the Weddings Manager at One Whitehall Place, here and let her know you’d like to come.
Come and talk to us about your plans, flower needs and ideas and bring us photos of your dress – we love to look at dresses!
You can look through our portfolios, see the wedding flowers we have made up and practise with the wedding bouquets we will have on show.
Come and indulge in a wedding day to remember and let us help you to make your wedding day even better
Well Valentine’s Day has gone and I’m looking forward to a very busy year for weddings – well we obviously need something to keep our spirits up!
Seriously though, one of our regular venues, the fabulous One Whitehall Place has more weddings booked up and couples on waiting lists for availability than last year. We’ve also seen an increase across the board for weddings on Fridays and Sundays

Our latest wedding on Saturday 13th February was actually in the stunning surroundings of the Gladstone Library at One Whitehall Place. The colour theme was Cadbury purple with ivory accents, lots of candles and scented jasmine to welcome the guests into the Whitehall Suite for the ceremony
This weekend, 19th-21st February, thousands of 2010-2011 brides will be heading to the National Wedding Show at Olympia http://www.nationalweddingshow.co.uk/buy-tickets to find ideas to make their wedding special
