Undoubtedly, it has once again come round to that most romantic time of the year. Men and women all over the world are agonising over what to do – should they buck the trend and buy something meaningful and unique, weather the storm of red heart infested shops all along the high street to find that one special thing that will be your undying testament to love!

Well, while you’re considering that challenge why not order a beautiful bouquet of red roses to be delivered to the love of your life – yes, it may be cheesy; no, it may not be unique – but I wouldn’t believe a woman who said ‘don’t buy me flowers’

And  increasingly, I find more women are sending flowers so it isn’t even one sided. Who doesn’t want to be embarrassed in their office by a delivery of stunning pure red roses and such a visual declaration of intent!

For those who insist on being different, why not send a bouquet of pure white roses?  After all, a white rose does mean ‘secret admirer’ and what else is Valentine’s Day about than love and mystery

We had a lovely time at the flower stall outside Bake-a-Boo last weekend, even though I did have to keep having cups of tea and cake to keep me going all day. We met some local residents coming to pick up their cake orders who decided to get some flowers for Mum at the same time, which was lovely.

We also managed to raise some money for Breast Cancer Care from the sale of our bouquets. I’m planning to do the same thing for Easter flowers – 10% from any order goes to the same charity www.breastcancercare.org.uk

We still have some spaces left on the Easter flower workshop on 31st March, so why not some along and have fun learning how to make a special flower display for your table or a flower gift for someone you are visiting over the holiday. You get to eat cake and drink tea too!

So as well as our floral workshops, details of which to follow soon, there will be short courses on jewellery making, 50s make up and lots of other fun stuff

2009

I’ve been looking back over the past year and realised just how busy we were with weddings, events and parties

We worked  on over 20 weddings alone in 2009, which was way up on the previous year and I can only assume that the couples had made their plans the previous year before the ‘downturn’ kicked in and figured ‘we might as well go for it and have a party to remember!’

In terms of style and colours, there was a great variety but the predominant look was ivory and orange! To be honest, I’ve never been a big fan of citrus colours; whether it was the prevailing gloomy atmosphere or perhaps I’m softening in in old age, but they actually turned out very well

2010

Looking forward to 2010, there is already a colour trend starting. Last weekend saw our first wedding of the season and it was a mix of beautiful purples, lilacs and plums with Anemones, Freesia, Roses and Veronica in silver vases and candelabra throughout. And I can tell you that so far, this colour scheme is going to be a strong favourite this year

There are so many wonderful flowers in this group – purple and plum Anemones, lilac Freesia and Roses, exotic Vanda Orchids in graphic purple and lilac tones plus the amazing large headed purple Hydrangea later in the season
