Our July weddings have started – we have a record 8 scheduled for this month and the different teams working on them have been running around far and near!

The first I can share with you was held in the beautiful church of St John the Baptist in Little Missenden.

With a Scottish groom involved, it was a challenge to co-ordinate the flowers with an unusual tartan, but Jessie and I had great fun choosing pale blue, purple, red and green flowers at the flower market.

Then last week, we came back into the centre of London for a sun filled wedding party at the Kensington Roof Gardens. Bowls of Freesia, Dahlia and Roses with bright coral Peonies combined to make a real summer party with the sun blazing down on the glorious gardens of this unique rooftop venue.

The bride looked beautiful and carried vibrant coral Peonies and fragrant Freesia. The bridesmaids were in very glamorous coral pink dresses and each had an ivory Singapore Orchid wrist corsage tied with pale gold ribbons.

There seems to be a trend emerging for bright wedding flowers at the moment! Coral is a fave in terms of both dresses and flowers. So watch this space!

In January, David Hares at www.contemporaryweddings.net photographed Claire and Simon’s wedding at The National Liberal Club.  Claire chose a beautiful selection of purple and dark red Roses, Anemones, Ranunculus and Lisianthus with glossy green berried Ivy to complement the rich, clubby decor in the Dining Room with mirrored silver vases to set off the venue’s candelabra.

The National Liberal Club shares the same building as One Whitehall Place and The Royal Horseguards Hotel just west of Northumberland Avenue.

A very central venue with fantastic views over the Thames, it doesn’t have the grand high ceilings of the Gladstone Library upstairs at OWP but is still a very commanding and dramatic place.

Nearer to home,  July  is going to be a busy month and a varied one for wedding styles.  We have a country wedding with bright, striking colours and the most beautiful 13th century church I’ve ever seen; ivory and burnt orange on a Thames Riverboat; Spicy oranges and reds for a central London rooftop extravaganza; delicate pinks and ivories with long guests’ tables and finally white and purples to round off the month

We installed some beautiful flowers for a wedding yesterday at St James’ Clerkenwell which was, luckily, fantastically cool as the Peonies we were using were very hot, in both colour and temperature! We then went on to The Larder restaurant in St John Street with some vibrant purple and hot pink seasonal flowers – Stock, Roses, Dahlia, Freesia mixed in with some scented herbs set in mirrored silver pots (photos to follow soon).

Today we had two events so our wedding teams went off in different directions – one to the city and St Helen’s on Bishopsgate (photos to follow) and the other to One Whitehall Place.

This wedding was joining a Greek bride with an Italian groom so we had Olive branches, Eucalyptus, pale pink Sposina roses (it apparently means ‘little bride’), Maroussia roses as they were named for Louisa’s grandmother and a bouquet including

Lily of the Valley from my garden because the Mother of the bride had some in her wedding bouquet – it was a real family affair!

Clearly the lovely weather has cheered everyone up! We’ve had a big surge in enquiries over the past month both for this year and next and I’m looking forward to working on some fab weddings with some wonderful brides . . . and grooms of course!

It looks like we will be returning to some of our favourite venues – One Whitehall Place, of course, the beautiful Dartmouth House in Mayfair, the Kensington Roof Gardens as well as some new ones like Charlton House in Greenwich and the Haberdashers’ Hall in the City. Photos will be posted as soon as possible after the weddings along with details of the flowers involved.

Last weekend we were back at One Whitehall Place for a beautiful Spring inspired wedding.

We used seasonal flowers throughout – Apple Blossom, parrot Tulips, fragrant Narcissi and pure white Hyacinths, ivory Roses and scented Freesia with accents of very pale pink Ranunculi and bright green Guelder Rose. Masses of pillar candles, petals and lily of the valley scented nite lites gave a truly magical effect at this wonderful venue

Last week was the annual London Design Week at the Design Centre in Chelsea Harbour. With around 70 companies taking part and showing off their most recently launched collections of fabric, lighting, carpet, furniture and more, it was a great opportunity to see what the current trends are for interior design around the world.

One of our oldest clients, fabric designers Jab, has moved to a stunning, much larger new showroom at Imperial Wharf www.jab.de/en. More photos to follow soon

We provided flower displays for some of the new showrooms at the Centre – Edelman Leathers, a wonderfully tactile showroom with leather and skins in fantastic designs, patterns and colours covering the entire floor, walls and furniture  www.edelmanleather.com. We chose burnt orange James Storey orchids and silvery blue Eucalyptus to echo the tan leather tiles on the walls and ceiling and the snakeskin effect printed leather on the console table at the entrance.

We also created an unusual display for Wired www.wired-designs.com, a new showroom featuring the most amazing collection of lights. They wanted something striking which would work with their dramatic lighting designs. So we chose hot pink Orchids, dark red passion Roses, green date palms and bright orange Protea!

Another of our long standing clients, the American design company J Robert Scott, has been at the Design Centre for many years, and has a fantastic contemporary collection of fabrics and furniture in the most wonderfully glamorous shades of cream, taupe, cinnamon, mink, chocolate with some accents of black and burnt orange/red www.jrobertscott.com

Lovers of white flowers, this year they had French Tulips.

Another  showroom new to the Design Centre, The Bradley Collection, have an incredible range of curtain poles and finials. To keep with their contemporary image, we designed a display comprising white Hyacinths, Ranunculi and Eucalyptus in clear glass cylinders which was both fresh and Spring like www.bradleycollection.com

This weekend’s wedding was at the lovely Pendley Manor, set in landscaped gardens close to Tring in Hertfordshire.

The Verney Room was the setting for the ceremony and the party then moved to the beautifully decorated Oak Room shown here dressed with displays of white and green flowers set on glass cake stands and tall lily vases filled with white Singapore orchid heads on silver wire.

There is a very aptly named Peacock Lounge at Pendley Manor so called for the amazing tame peacocks that roam the grounds and are often seen by guests strolling past the windows to see what is going on! www.pendley-manor.co.uk

The overpowering sense that Spring was finally here greeted guests on arrival and was in the air all day even though it was a little overcast and threatened to rain on occasion!

The bride had a bouquet of ivory Akito roses with Ranunculus, Freesia and Narcissi Paper Whites whilst the flower girl and bridesmaid carried posies of creamy white Freesia.

I’m looking forward to returning to Pendley for another wedding; it is a beautiful house with charming service – well worth a look if you haven’t found your ideal venue yet . . .

We had a lovely time at the flower stall outside Bake-a-Boo last weekend, even though I did have to keep having cups of tea and cake to keep me going all day. We met some local residents coming to pick up their cake orders who decided to get some flowers for Mum at the same time, which was lovely.

We also managed to raise some money for Breast Cancer Care from the sale of our bouquets. I’m planning to do the same thing for Easter flowers – 10% from any order goes to the same charity www.breastcancercare.org.uk

We still have some spaces left on the Easter flower workshop on 31st March, so why not some along and have fun learning how to make a special flower display for your table or a flower gift for someone you are visiting over the holiday. You get to eat cake and drink tea too!
